his chapter is dedicated to the works of R. Lalique which, although identical in mould ,are commercialized in different categories, such as,
car mascots, paper weights and book-ends.
« The Falcon » is R. Lalique's first mascot, made in 1925,
(see R.Lalique by F. Marcilhac p. 498).
Of course, Lalique will produce radiator caps in glass, his favourite material.
Most of them will be treated in the round and will express the most important themes of Lalique's work:
- Animal, with the "Ram head" made in 1928,
(see Bonhams Grand Palais Paris sale , p 7 7th Feb. 2013).
Cubical treatment appears exceptionnally in some models like «The Pintade»
made in 1929,
(see R. lalique by F. Marcihac p 511) or the "Coq Houdan" made in 1929,
(see the S.W collection).
- Feminin with the «Vitesse» made in 1929.
(see The Automobilia Osenat 's sale 8th Nov 2015).
- And finally mythtological, with the "Victoire" made in 1928, freely inspired by the the Gorgone, ( ex. the Turpin's sale in November 2013).
Noticing mascots were less commercial in France than in England where they were sold at the Breves Gallerys, Lalique decided to withdraw them from his sale's cataloque and use the existng moulds to produce book-ends or paperweights,
(see the Chrysis from the S .W collection).
The book ends were set on black glass socles,
(see the «Coq Houdan» book ends from the S.W collection).
